- I've always been big sized girl and loved to eat. I come from a family where my Mum and her family are big sized. So I've always thought that it was genetic and that I'm big boned. That was my reason.
- So when I came across this book, Isabel said "Stop dieting and start eating" and I thought "Wow! I don't have to starve?" So I decided to put it to the test
- I have a medical background and always knew "how" to lose weight. In fact, I bet most people know general weight loss principles. Until I read Isabel's book and she explained the fundamentals of nutrition along with her tips and tricks, then I understood the "why". Once the knowledge has set good foundations within me, it wasn't hard for me to get and stay motivated.
- I started applying just some of Isabel's principles and started to lose weight slowly. It wasn't anything drastic. In fact, it was gradual which meant that I learnt how to adjust and take on healthier habits rather than crash dieting. A few months later, my friends were noticing the changes and said that I looked slim and toned. How's that! I had an assessment done and I have a physical age of 26, even though I'm 32. I took 6 years off my age! This is definitely an achievement I'm proud of. Now people often look at me and guess my age to be about 25.
Here are just some of the highlights of The Diet Solution Program:
- I didn't know that this 'health' food can cause fatigue, depression, hair loss, poor skin, weight gain and lower your SEX drive! Not to mention the increasing rates of infertility too.
You'll find this on page 53 - I was devastated when I found out that this food is the most abundantly consumed food and can make it IMPOSSIBLE for some to lose weight (and it's my favourite food!).
You'll find this on page 56 - I was surprised when Isabel suggested this diet strategy that will help solve many of Western society's health problems and assist in getting rid of high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol and heart disease. Imagine if you don't have to take pills everyday!
You'll find this on page 58 - Did you know that drinking more water can help you burn more fat?! As soon as I read that, I went and drank 2 glasses of water.

Of course, The Diet Solution Program isn't for everybody. Here are some of the areas where I thought Isabel de Los Rios missed the mark:
- The Diet Solution Program comes with a recipe book so that the principles can easily be applied practically to wholesome meals. But, it doesn't cater for all ethnic groups. It may be more difficult applying the principles to certain ethnic cuisines.
- Isabel gives specific resources and brands that she has already researched to be the best. However, this is limited to the USA. If you live outside of the USA, finding equivalents will take more research on your part for your local brands.
- This book is a diet book. It doesn't focus on exercise althought she does mention that you need to exercise to lose and maintain weight.
That being said, I feel that The Diet Solution Program is perfect for:
- People like Lisa who has tried slimming shakes, soups and bars. She found that they don't taste great even though she has lost the weight. But after stopping the slimming programs, she put it back on. The Diet Solution Program taught her habit changes that apply to real life so that she can eat real foods. It also provided meal plans so it took the hassle out of thinking of what to cook everyday.
- People like John who has type 2 diabetes. He has a family history of obesity and diabetes so he thought it was genetic and can't do anything about it. He applied the strategy from the book and now his diabetes is under control and even receeding as well as losing weight.
- People like Leanne who already knows how to lose weight. Eat more fruits and vegetables and don't eat fried foods. That's common sense stuff and everybody knows that. The problem is how that knowledge translates into meals is the struggle as a lot of other people will find. The book provided Leanne with tips and recipes so that she learnt how to apply knowledge to practicality so that she can cook real foods. It also taught her how to listen to her body's cues so that she doesn't have to count calories anymore.

If you're like me, you should pay careful attention to where the author goes into great detail about this topic.. You'll find this on page 39
- This way of eating to lose body fat was a complete surprise to me. But once you read all about it, you'll be as eager to try it as I was.. You'll find this on page 29
- I was quite surprised to find out about the devastating mistakes that I was making when I was doing my ab exercises. But the author set me straight, where he explains how to avoid bad ab exercises and do some surprisingly killer abs and core exercises.. You'll find this on page 57
Of course, Truth About Six Pack Abs isn't for everybody.
- The diet and exercises recommended may not be suitable for everyone. People with medical conditions should obviously consult a doctor first.
- Some investment in exercise equipment is needed. They may not be hundreds of dollars but some simple equipment such as dumbells or exercise inflatable balls would be useful.
But if you're dealing with any of the problems mentioned above, I think Truth About Six Pack Abs can probably save you a lot of time and hassles. Mike Geary's research and experience, as well as a sincere desire to help, come through on every page of the book.
